無病息災を願って「夏越の祓」茅の輪くぐり
６月の京都、今年は比較的過ごしやすい気候が続いています。この時期の京都は今年前半の罪やけがれを祓い今年の残り半分後半の無病息災を願う「夏越の祓」であちこちの神社で茅の輪が設置され沢山の人が茅の輪くぐりに訪れます。
写真は北野天満宮ですが、ここの茅の輪は京都最大級のサイズで多くの人が訪れています。
また当店直ぐ近く、京都御所の目と鼻の先の距離にある下御霊神社にも茅の輪がありますので是非足を運んでみて下さい。

Historical events in Kyoto in June
In Kyoto at the end of June, shrines across the city set up ”chinowa” (large rings made of cogon grass) for the “Nagoshi no Harae” ritual; people flock to these sites to pass through the rings, seeking to cleanse themselves of the sins and impurities accumulated during the first half of the year and to pray for good health and well-being for the remainder of the year.
The photo shows the *Chinowa* (grass ring) at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine—its sheer size, one of the largest in Kyoto, is truly impressive!
Shimo-Goryo Shrine, located just before the Kyoto Imperial Palace and very close to our shop, UME SAKURA, also features a *Chinowa*; we highly recommend renting one of our summer kimonos and paying a visit.
Be sure to experience this seasonal feature of Kyoto—available only at this time of year.
