The Art of Wearing Kimono

Established in 2009, UME SAKURA is a traditional kimono rental salon run by experienced Kyoto kimono professionals. We believe that the beauty of kimono lies in the harmony of the kimono, obi, and accessories, brought together through thoughtful coordination and expert dressing. Our salon welcomes both visitors from around the world and local kimono enthusiasts who appreciate authentic Japanese style. Located in a century-old Kyoto machiya in the Gosho-Minami area, near the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Teramachi shopping street.

We offer a carefully selected collection of traditional Japanese kimono, complemented by beautiful obi and accessories. Every detail matters to us. From the harmony of colors and patterns to the choice of obi and accessories, our experienced stylists create refined, elegant kimono ensembles that reflect the beauty of authentic Japanese tradition.

Authentic Kimono Rental

By Appointment Only

All kimono rentals at UME SAKURA are by appointment only. We welcome just one group per hour, allowing our experienced staff to give each guest personal attention. From selecting the kimono and coordinating the obi and accessories to the final dressing, we take the time to ensure every guest feels comfortable, confident, and beautifully dressed.

How It Works

Traditional Kimono Dressing by Skilled Professionals

At UME SAKURA, our experienced kimono dressing professionals follow traditional Japanese techniques to create a beautiful, well-balanced silhouette while ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. We do not use simplified costume-style dressing methods. Authentic kimono dressing involves a series of carefully considered steps, each with its own purpose in achieving the proper shape, balance, and comfort. We kindly ask our guests to appreciate and respect this traditional process, allowing our staff the time needed to dress them properly and beautifully.

About Ume Sakura

A Charming Location in the Heart of Kyoto

UME SAKURA is located in Gosho-Minami, a charming neighborhood in central Kyoto, just south of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The surrounding streets are home to traditional shops, antique stores, tea shops, and inviting cafés, offering a wonderful glimpse into everyday Kyoto. Just steps from the historic Teramachi shopping street, our salon is an ideal starting point for exploring the city in kimono.

UME SAKURA is a private kimono salon welcoming just one group per hour.

To provide every guest with attentive service, we kindly ask you to arrive on time and contact us in advance if you need to change or cancel your reservation.

Please review our booking and cancellation policies before making your reservation.

《Caution about cancellation》

This is a private salon with only one group per hour.

Therefore, uncertain reservations will cause inconvenience to other customers who wish to make reservations.

Please make a reservation with a solid plan.

Also, if you have to cancel due to unavoidable circumstances, please be sure to contact us at least 2 days in advance.

If you cancel on the day of the reservation, or if you cancel without contacting us, you will be charged a cancellation fee, so please make a reservation after agreeing.

 

Please refrain from coming to the store if you are not using kimono rental.
Also, please refrain from bringing children into the store.

Book Kimono Rental

Check availability from the calendar and choose your date and time slot. Appointments are every 30 minutes, but the entire kimono process lasts about 1 hour. If you would like to book for more than 5 people or need to book at the last minute (less than 24 hours), please contact us directly.
